Box of Birds (New Zealand)
5 Feb 2020 - 1 Dec 2021
Designed specifically to engage a young audience, the story follows Peter and his Grandma who build a nesting box for Ruru – but Peter must learn to be patient and wait to discover who will eventually nest in his Box of Birds. The bird characters are familiar New Zealand locals and the story introduces young children to the idea of supporting ngā manu and the different needs they may have. ‘Box of Birds’ encourages engagement using lots of live music, percussion and singing, interactive calling, a masked dancer and the magical wonder of puppetry! ‘Box of Birds’ embraces core principles that model empowerment and holistic development, relationship and respect to whanau (particularly grandparent), involvement and contribution with the natural environment (including a night time forest walk), and care and consideration particularly for native birds and their different needs.
“The wonderful storytelling abilities of Roger and Bridget [Birdlife Productions] will take you on a journey of exquisite artistry and simplicity that will leave you wanting more. True story telling at its finest.” Joel Bolton QSO, Conductor.
