For the last five years, Reconciliation SA and ActNow Theatre have delivered a schools' program called Generation of Change. In 2017, Generation of Change was nominated as a finalist for the Australian Human Rights Commission ‘2017 Racism. It Stops With Me’ award for its work facilitating important but difficult conversations about race with more than 1,200 students and 255 teachers from 171 schools across South Australia.
This is an empowering event which;
- explores what individuals can do on an interpersonal level to respond to racism;
- presents resources that explore racism and the effect that it has on people;
- discusses cultural safety and how it can be supported in schools and the community.
The program also includes ActNow Theatre's award-winning interactive Forum Theatre Performance “Responding to Racism” which focuses on addressing, preventing and building resilience against racism as well as performances by an Aboriginal singer-songwriter.
“ActNow is a very different kind of theatre, indeed.” The Adelaide Review
