Out of The Blue is a visually arresting new outdoor dance-theatre production available from March 2018 onwards exploring man's relationship with the creatures of the sea.
Featuring illuminated skeletal fish headwear this group performance piece sees Chloe work with up to 7 community dancers to create a roaming shoal of fish. It features incredible design by Jared Haley and Sanit Klamchanuan of Weta Workshop, assisted by intern 3rd year students from UCOL (Whanganui school of design). These are works of wearable art, large, half skeletal fish, worn like gladiatorial helmets with performers looking out from the mouths, the body is that of a human. Amongst the shoal are hidden speakers playing an underwater soundtrack, making a surreal immersive experience as the shoal swarm around the public during their structured improvisations.
Through striking costuming and simple effective shoal-like choreography, this work seeks to engage and entertain audiences whilst also inspiring reflection on the importance of kaitiakitanga, guardianship of the environment, to ensure sustainability and balance of this delicate ecosystem.
