Recollections of a fellow traveller in/on Jimmy Little's Gentle Journey
A chance meeting in 1996 with Jimmy Little changed the lives of both this legendary performer and Karma County frontman Brendan Gallagher forever. Jimmy became Brendan’s dear friend, mentor and collaborator.
Together they performed across Australia and around the world, from the Sydney Opera House to the Globe Theatre in London. From 1996 to 1999 they worked together in Brendan’s home studio to create what was to become Jimmy’s ARIA award-winning album, Messenger.
In the Shadow of the Black Love grew out of a request to Brendan from SBS Television to participate in Reconciliation Week activities. By sharing songs, stories and yarns of his time with Jimmy, he convinced everyone present that music is a universal language - that music has the power to break down barriers and unite us all.
Brendan presents an array of rarely seen images of their work together over a period of sixteen years until Jimmy’s death in 2012.
