TOHU Dance Theatre
Born in Turangi Moss’s proud ancestry comes from both the central north island and northern tribes of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
Moss was appointed as the first Artistic Director of Atamira Dance Company in 2010 taking the company to new heights as New Zealand’s leading Indigenous dance company touring nationally and internationally annually.
Moss has now created his own company - TOHU DANCE THEATRE.
New tour ready work: VIBRATIONS, with a premiere in Auckland in December 2019, and OHO with a premiere in January 2020.
There are two further works in development: SLOW MOON (with Korean collaborators) and REMEMBER SONGS (with Taiwanese collaborators).
Previous to this Moss developed a significant body of work which has lead the way for Atamira’s work to be presented on New Zealand’s largest and most prestigious platforms for dance.
In 2013 Moss’s works Moko was selected for presentation at the prestigious Jacobs Pillow USA opening the way for internationaltouring for Atamira. In 2015 Moko went on to tour China and Korea and in 2016 his newest commissioned work Pango toured Taiwan and China with a return tour to Korea in 2017.
Moss joined forces with the Auckland Philarmonia Orchestra in 2011 to present large scale dance projects drawing artists from all communities over Auckland city. These large scale collaboration works have now been presented in all of Auckland’s largest professional dance theatres as part of the Auckland International Arts Festival. The collaboration has produced six major dance works with over 100 performers to original narratives that Moss has written.
Moss has received choreographic awards from Tempo Dance Festival, Toi Maori and Creative New Zealand.
