Louise Blackwell and the French Set
Louise Blackwell is a performer and singer from Adelaide who spent many years living in France, studying cinema and jazz vocal technique with Sara Lazarus and Michele Hendricks and went on to sing in the Paris jazz scene, recording three Cds featuring Vincent Bourgeyx on piano, Gildas Boclé/Chris Jennings on double bass and Karl Jannuska on drums..
She has brought her inspiration and love of French culture and music back to Adelaide and created a show called A NIGHT IN PARIS, which is a wonderful journey into the world of the French chanson and its many artists. A French variety hour with chanteuse and story teller Louise accompanied by The French Set, comprising some of Adelaide's finest jazz musicians including Mark Ferguson on piano, Julian Ferraretto on violin, John Aué on double bass and Joshua Baldwin on drums. The selection of repertoire is particularly appealing and the show won a Weekly Fringe Award at the 2018 Adelaide Fringe Festival. French people who see the show particularly love it, but it also appeals to people who haven't had much experience with French music.
Louise Blackwell and the French Set have recently performed at the opening of the Musée d'Orsay exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia and have done most French inspired events around Adelaide, including the French Market, the French Film Festival, the Adelaide Festival Centre's French Festival, the Bonjour Barossa Festival at Seppelstfield and they also do an annual sold out concert at La Bohème every Bastille Day. They have toured to Melbourne, playing at the Paris Cat and other venues, and Louise performed at the Guilty Pleasures Festival at Brunswick Heads, NSW. They are currently recording a Cd called A NIGHT IN PARIS which Louise plans to release soon and hopes to tour to different parts of South Australia and Australia.
