Frank is a story teller, songwriter, singer and guitarist. In that order. he has been performing for the last 15 years throughout the UK, New Zealand and Australia. His rambling anecdotes aim to give the audience more of a connection with his songs. When he relocated to Wellington from Edinburgh with his partner and backing vocalist Kara Filbey, he formed an incredible string band, with blues and country mandolin player Cameron Burnell and jazz double bassist James Geluk.
Bringing their musical styles together, The Frank Burkitt Band have made incredible progress in the last 3 years, releasing their debut album Fools & Kings in 2015, which reached No.12 in the Official NZ Music Charts. They have embarked on several national tours and have played several high profile festivals across NZ. They have performed with a host of prominent musicians from the Wellington jazz scene and the UK folk scene. Inspired by artists such as Van Morrison, Billy Joel and The Wood Brothers, they play high energy, original music written by Burkitt and arranged by the band. They will be releasing their second album Raconteur in March 2018 at Port Fairy Folk Festival and will be touring throughout Australia and New Zealand in March and April.
Frank also embarked on a small tour of the U.K with banjo player Dan Walsh (BBC Folk Musician Nominee) in August 2017 and works as a booking agent for overseas artists wishing to tour New Zealand. He regularly promotes and puts on music throughout New Zealand such as the Wellington Independent Music Showcase at BATS Theatre which features 4 independent artists over 4 consecutive nights in a boutique, intimate venue.
